Histolab Pty Ltd is an independent, pathologist-owned and managed pathology laboratory and practice, specialising in tissue pathology (histopathology).
The laboratory was established in 2009 and commenced testing in February 2010. The laboratory is fully accredited for the provision of histopathology services by NATA (National Association of Testing Authorities), in conjunction with the RCPA (Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia). The laboratory is also enrolled in the relevant modules of Quality Assurance Programme (QAP) of the RCPA.

Andrew graduated from the University of Melbourne Medical
School in 1987. He completed his training and satisfied
the examination requirements of the Royal College of Pathologists of
Australasia in 1996, and was awarded Fellowship in 1997. In 1997, he started
employment as a histopathologist at Melbourne Pathology at the main laboratory
in Collingwood. He held positions as Head of Cytopathology and Head of
Histopathology during his time there and was Medical Director from 2005 to
2009. He left at the end of 2009 to open Histolab Pty Ltd. Andrew's main
professional expertise and interest is in Dermatopathology. He has
been actively involved in the teaching of skin pathology to Dermatology
Registrars and Plastic Surgery Registrars, in preparation for their fellowship
examinations for two decades. He was awarded Associate Membership of the
Australasian College of Dermatologists in 2005.
Andrew participates in the Continuing Professional
Development Programme of the RCPA, and is a regular attender at local and
international skin pathology meetings and courses. He is a former Board Member and Past President of the Australasian Dermatopathology Society.
Vanessa is a full-time dermatopathologist at Histolab. She
graduated from Monash University Medical School in 1998, where she also
completed a Bachelor of Medical Science in Forensic Pathology. She obtained
Fellowship of the RCPA in 2005. She has had a decade of Dermatopathology reporting
experience at a large private laboratory in Melbourne where she was the lead
and coordinating pathologist for a dermatopathology service aimed at servicing
skin cancer clinics and general practitioners. She has also been involved in
Dermatology Registrar training and has completed a course in dermoscopy,
'Professional Certificate of Dermoscopy for Pathologists' and is a regular
participant at The Australasian College of Dermatologists' clinical meetings.
Shane is a full-time anatomical pathologist at Histolab. He
graduated from the University of Melbourne Medical School in 2006, where he
also completed a Bachelor of Medical Science. He obtained fellowship of the
RCPA in 2013. He has a broad depth of experience across diverse organ systems,
including skin, but with special interest in Gastrointestinal and Urological
Pathology. He is active in research and has contributed to a number of
publications in peer reviewed journals; most recently on the topics of prostate
cancer and digital pathology. He has been an invited speaker to international
conferences and was awarded a RCPA Grant-in-Aid for pathology research in 2017.
Shane's reports include diagrams, images and annotated 3D specimen models as
well as volumetric mapping for selected malignancies.
Sant is a full-time anatomical pathologist at Histolab. He graduated from Guy's Hospital Medical School in London in 1979 where he also completed a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Biochemistry. He was awarded fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists UK in 1986. Sant trained in histopathology and cytopathology at Charing Cross, Royal Marsden, St Bartholomew's and St Mark’s Hospitals in London.
He has held positions at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and as Deputy Director of Anatomical Pathology at the Alfred Hospital. Sant was part of the Executive Team at a large private laboratory in Melbourne prior to joining Histolab in 2019. He has extensive anatomical pathology experience with special interests in Gastrointestinal, Dermatopathology, Breast and Lymphoma Pathology.
Daniel is a part-time histopathologist with Histolab. He received his medical degree from the University of Melbourne in 2002 and was awarded fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia in 2013. Daniel is also a practising ophthalmologist and holds public hospital positions with Monash Health, Eastern Health and the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital. He is Chief Examiner in Ophthalmic Pathology for the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists. He enjoys providing personalised histopathology services for ophthalmic colleagues.
Karen is a part-time histopathologist with Histolab. She graduated from the University of Adelaide Medical School in 2005, where she completed a Bachelor of Medical Sciences (Honours). She obtained fellowship with the RCPA in 2012. Karen has worked in private laboratories reporting a range of work including skin, Breast and Gastrointestinal cases with a special interest in Dermatopathology. She has previously been involved in the teaching of Anatomical Pathology and Dermatology trainees. Karen is a member of the Australasian Dermatopathology Society and the International Society of Dermatopathology.
Peter graduated from the University of Melbourne in 1990 and obtained fellowship of the RCPA in 1999. From 2001 to 2011 he was Anatomical Pathologist at the Austin Hospital, with subspecialty responsibility for Gastrointestinal and Hepatobiliary Pathology, including Liver Transplantation. From 2006 to 2011 he was Director of Anatomical Pathology at the Austin and Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Melbourne, maintaining a busy schedule of general and specialised histopathology reporting, multidisciplinary meetings, undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and collaborative research. Since 2011 he has worked in the private sector as a lead gastrointestinal pathologist, while consulting across a wide range of disciplines. He now works as a full-time Anatomical Pathologist at Histolab.
